SSC in Action

Strategic Scientific Consulting has successfully worked with many great companies and organisations over the past 10 years in the UK and 3 years in Finland. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

Inspiring Young Technologists To Commercialise

Inspiring Young Technologists To Commercialise

Inspiring scientists to explore their inner entrepreneur is pivotal in these changing times. 80% of tech companies that fail in the first 3 years do so, not because of the technology, but because of a lack of sales.

Training scientists to identify and communicate the business vision behind emerging technologies from the highly regarded universities in Scotland and Finland is important and can help students determine if they really want to move into further research or if a more commercial role is a better career path for them. SSC has worked with Strathclyde University for more than 10 years to train and support groups of final year students at SIPBS (Strathclyde Institute for Pharmacy and Biomedical Science) to provide professional quality market research reports highlighting market opportunity and route to product launch for more than 30 projects from the University.

Building a Strong Accessible Message & Getting Start-Up Funding

Building a Strong Accessible Message & Getting Start-Up Funding

New materials and solutions for ending the destructive impact of plastic packaging on the oceans is definitely a hot topic. Taking waste from fisheries and using that to create innovative food packaging that extends shelf-life is the Holy Grail in this area – and CuanTec is making it happen. CuanTec is a company that SSC have supported from pre-set up to develop their business plan, attain funding (circa £2m in grants and equity secured to date) and to reach the accolades of being one of the top 10 Scottish BioEconomy companies. It has taken a combination of the power of SSC Ltd and SSC-FI working together to provide the skills and resources required over the past 4 years to propel CuanTec to where they are today. No longer an idea in a researcher’s mind, but a vibrant company of 15 staff with its own facilities and ambitions to move into production in the near future.

Quality Grant Applications are the Key to Success

High quality applications make the difference between success and failure for competitive grant situations. SSC-FI has been working with companies and Universities in the UK, Switzerland and Finland to provide guidance and support in writing applications for Finland (Tutli) and EU (SME Instrument).

Working To Help Make Our Built Environment More Functional And Sustainable

Working To Help Make Our Built Environment More Functional And Sustainable

As the skies clear of pollution due to less aircraft and road journeys, we are seeing the importance of materials used in our build environment more clearly as well. Natural, sustainable, and beautiful are the properties that everyone wants.

In order to support more home-working and on-line businesses the access to 4G and 5G networks will be expanding across Europe. This will require more mobile masts – so why can’t they be natural, sustainable and beautiful?

Last year SSC worked with a Finnish company, EcoTelligent, to explore the market needs and drivers behind the telecommunications networks in UK, including providing introductions to key market players and influencers.

EcoTelligent provide wooden communication towers and poles, providing an aesthetically pleasing environment which provides technical excellence and significantly reduces the CO2 emissions and carbon footprint of telecommunication infrastructure.

SSC Ltd and SSC-FI also show their strength as a combination when giving training courses.

We have worked with several Finnish and Scottish universities – working with their young researchers and post-graduate students to help them develop commercialisation awareness and apply these skills to their CV, to research applications and to creating spin-out companies.

We have worked with commercialisation teams within Universities and Research institutions to hone their skills to bring out the best in their researchers but also to understand the strengths of the branding and reputation of their organisations.

The combination of being able to instantly provide an international perspective, to be able to simultaneously talk about the challenges of breaking into one of the G7 economies as well as understanding the challenges of localism is powerful and beneficial.

SSC offer training courses for inspiring innovation and enterpreneurship, for training the innovation/ knowledge exchange teams in research organisations and also provide sales training and sales team development for growing companies.

In the near future SSC will be able to offer our training courses, through our trademark Business JumpStart™ on-line to support new business ideas that might just be the ones to kick off a greener more sustainable future for us all.
